The scene is set in our living room. I’m chasing my son around the couch. He loves it. This is his favourite part of the day — of course, playing with daddy. He’s laughing and gaining momentum with each loop of our man-made circuit. Doing his best to outrun me. I’m wearing morning shoes at this point, so it’s pretty much a fair challenge.
Then the shoes start taking their toll. I’m literary dragging my feet in this exchange. I begin to slow down and Taku looks behind and slows down with me. At one point he stops and waits for me to fix my shoes so we can continue.
“Fun, is when both of us — are thriving.”
Right there. I see it…
In the workplace, it’s common practise for leaders to subvert their staff in order to get ahead. Be it talking them down to discouraging any effort or highlighting their flaws frequently to make them feel inadequate. This kind of leadership is rampant. There is also the stealing of ideas and presenting them as their own. This post won’t allow for the exhaustive list. The point is. That kind of leadership never flourishes.
Great Leaders create an environment that is both stimulating and conducive for growth.
Just like Taku did, great leaders wait. They are patient. They empathise. Though knowledgeable and able, they rather facilitate — leveraging other people’s strengths and letting them flourish. Great Leaders create an environment that is both stimulating and conducive for growth. This kind of leadership, makes for great work and oneness in the workplace.
